Judge in Northwestern principal case recuses himself

By DAVID OVALLE

A Miami-Dade judge recused himself Friday from the trial of former Northwestern High principal Dwight Bernard after pushing -- too hard, prosecutors said -- for a plea deal that would have preempted a trial.

Circuit Judge Julio Jimenez is off the case after prosecutors complained he openly advocated for a lenient deal for Bernard, who is accused of covering up a sex scandal at Northwestern involving a star football player in 2006.

Bernard's trial had been set to begin Monday, but was postponed.

In the suit, filed against Miami-Dade County, the ACLU argued Thursday that the county's ordinance banning sex predators from living within 2,500 feet of schools conflicts with a 1,000-feet state statute. Lab tech charged with Yale grad student's murder

New Haven, Conn. - Raymond Clark III appeared in court and was charged with murder Thursday hours after his arrest in the killing of a graduate student whose body was found stuffed in the wall of the research building where they both worked. Cops: Kids and Guns are no joke
