Judge in Northwestern principal case recuses himself
By DAVID OVALLE
A Miami-Dade judge recused himself Friday from the trial of former Northwestern High principal Dwight Bernard after pushing -- too hard, prosecutors said -- for a plea deal that would have preempted a trial. Circuit Judge Julio Jimenez is off the case after prosecutors complained he openly advocated for a lenient deal for Bernard, who is accused of covering up a sex scandal at Northwestern involving a star football player in 2006. Bernard's trial had been set to begin Monday, but was postponed.
